I couldn’t tell from the picture… is it possible to slide out the internal part -without- breaking the control wheel ?

Pretty interesting. I agree with making it lock into the USB cap with a push-button release; Would be very bad to lose your new music toy by wearing it around your neck.
Off topic: Might want to make the background under the text a solid light color. Kinda hard to read with the horizontal lines. Cheers!

Wonderful pioneering effort! Kudos! We’ve all been wondering how this “Man Who Fell To Earth” artifact could be opened! Hope you will post a basic greenboard component list: battery size and any part numbers or markings especially, processor and memory next of course. Thanks a million (well $99 actually) for your sacrifice to the iPod community!
Congratulations….not. I’ll bet a penny to a barrel of Adnams that you’ve just exposed the “Design Flaw Shuffle Scandal” blah blah headline on a thousand sites across the windows web with quotes from “sufferers worldwide” etc etc It’s enough to make you lose the will to live. Still, the corollary is also true, they will sell millions.

Terrific stuff! thanks!
But keep going… I expected to see a few more pictures of the machine as you removed more componants.
I have always loved taking apart and analysing the guts of apple equipment. Its always had a certain beauty that other electronics seems to miss. Early macs and even the Apple II were as elegant in their day as this devices is today.

Very good disection!
You didn’t show the opposite side of the board. Is it possible you follow up with addition images including a block diagram? I’m curious to know what other devices, besides the Sigmatel chip is in this thing. For example…how much SDRAM if any? Does anyone know the rating on the battery in mA*hrs?

Brilliant dissection!!
You showed clearly how to dissect the ipod shuffle, but I am a bit curious of the opposite side of the board. Would you please show us more image about it.
