July 28, 1945: As We May Think Published in Atlantic Monthly

Vannevar Bush was a prescient guy, and an individual whose influence on computers was vast but remains underrated. Bush had this to say about computers:

" Consider a future device for individual use, which is a sort of mechanized private file and library. It needs a name, and, to coin one at random, "memex" will do. A memex is a device in which an individual stores all his books, records, and communications, and which is mechanized so that it may be consulted with exceeding speed and flexibility. It is an enlarged intimate supplement to his memory."

Bush went on, throughout the article, to describe the internet, vast data storage and wide variety of technology that seems mundane today but was unimaginable to everyone but him when As We May Think was published July, 1945 of The Atlantic Monthly.
