Putting Microsoft’s Bid For Yahoo In Perspective

by James R. Stoup May 09, 2008

After hearing that Microsoft was walking away from its offer to buy Yahoo, I got to thinking what else they could buy with that kind of mony. Here are some ideas.

For $45 Billion Microsoft could buy. . .

327 F-22 Raptors (instantly have the world's 9th largest Air Force)
Everyone in California, Texas, New York, Florida and Illinois an iPhone
Every other web-related company created in the past 5 years
Wyoming
8 Aircraft carriers (the US only has 11)
Pay for the Iraq war for one football season (playoffs not included)
Hire every hooker in Las Vegas, at $200 per hour, to service every single person living in California . . . twice

  • Isn’t it Larry Ellison who has talked about using his fighter plane against Microsoft?

I am glad to see Microsoft refuse to pay Google’s price. Microsfot got this one right.

  • The Apple /// was far ahead of its time. SOS was great. The computer needed a fan to keep the RAM from coming out of the sockets. I had one setup as a BBS in 1983. It ran 24/7 for 3 years and never shut off.

The trick was to cut one of the Apple // cooling fans from System Saver to fit on the right side of the computer where the power supply was. This kept the internal temp down and the Aluminum case cool. The 5MB hard drive was great, no one else had factory hard drives. The color monitors looked great too.

I had the pleasure of meeting the Dr. He had great ideas, just to many marketing folks directing the operation is probably valid. Dr did dump the bit slicing O/S that was originally running on the Apple /// , to complex and to slow.

  • After jail breaking, do you still back-up the device and sync thru iTunes? Does it still sync with google calendar and other apple devices? burning avi to dvd mac Same deal in Australia, local newspapers were running stories last night about there not being an iPad 2 in stock anywhere, despite the large advertising campaign we have seen. But really its sort of expected with iDevice releases here… ive never bothered trying to get an iPhone right after launch, cause this always happens, a month or 2 in, after the fanatics have all got their tech, the normies can consider if they really want one

  • Uhhh…I get unlimited EVERYTHING on Verizon for $100 a month…but thats just because VZW was having a promotional socal plan that matched with sprints unlimited plan. Thats when I decided to get off my parents plan. Oh, and the $100 includes my unlimited data. I like VZW because they are ALWAYS coming out with cool promotional offers, Im not sure about AT&T, but I dont think so because my husband has them. VZW currently is having a smartphones talk free promotion. Basically, you activate or upgrade from a 3G multimedia or feature phone(secondary family lines only), VZW waives the $9.99 access fee for the next two years. GREAT promotion for family plans. But…Its only till the 31st of January. So its no good to people wanting to switch to the Verizon iPhone. But, Im sure verizon has another promotion up its sleeve. Its rare that I come into work and we DONT have any promotions we are running. Its funny cuz most of these promotions are for the customers benefit. I dont see how you can say they are consantly people? convert m4v to avi Best Buy is awesome because there’s an excess of single girls working the locations near me that are always willing to flex the employee discount on me. I’ll remain a Best Buy customer until another electronics shop hires even more inept girls.
