What’s bugging you?
This is a generic post to get the ball rolling about what software bugs are, well… bugging you.
Here’s a few of mine that come to mind:
Firefox (including version 1.5)
Critical error when dragging and dropping images from Firefox to other applications. Dock crashes and restarts, Firefox hangs, any application you try to exit also hang. Often finger of death is the only option. (i.e. hold power switch down until Mac switches off)
Opera (8 and 9)
Doesn’t remember passwords, even when I tell it to.
iCal
When iCal is running and an alarm pops up, clicking an action( eg remind in 30 minutes) unnecessarily brings iCal to the fore.
I’ll add more as I come across them. Tell us ones you’ve found.
Importantly, if other people can’t replicate any bugs listed, let us know too.
And tell us what OS you’re on.
I’m on Tiger 10.4.3, build 8F46, with all patches

luomat, yeah it does
Safari crashes whenever I try to load Apple’s home page for Aperture (a flash animation problem apparently). Apple’s own page! Too bad. Came back to OmniWeb.
Using 10.4.3 on a PowerMac G5 Dual.
@sjk:
I have the exact same annoying problem with iPhoto 5 and my iMac G5. I thought it might have been because I imported photos from my BlackBerry, but you’ve found that deleting all photos from the “second” camera doesn’t help. Has this problem been fixed by upgrading to a new iLife?
Hi Sanjay. Amazing how it took almost two years to find someone else who might actually be suffering with the same frustrating iPhoto bug that I did. Lucky I had notification on here or I’d have missed your post.
I’m glad to report that the mysterious problem disappeared when I upgraded to iPhoto 6. And so far I haven’t noticed any issues with iPhoto 7 (from iLife ‘08) and the combination of photos imported from my SD800 and others cameras.
Of course there’s no guarantee that upgrading will fix your problem but if the symptoms are really the same then it might be worth trying. For me the iPhoto 6 -> 7 upgrade was a good investment so you might be satisfied with the changes from 5 to 5 even if your problem persists (though my positive hunch is it won’t).
Good luck! And hopefully it won’t be another two years before you drop by again to report what you end up doing.
I wish I had found this blog sooner—I’ve been having this problem for the last 6 months. Most of the Apple forums with iPhoto hangs have them being fixed by deleting some file or the other, and none of those fixes have worked. I’m generally very conservative with major-release upgrades, so I have stuck with Tiger and iPhoto 5, which is what came with the computer. I am glad to hear that the upgrade solved the problem for you, it makes it worthwhile for me to upgrade my iLife to the latest version. I had held off on iPhoto 7 until I could feel that iPhoto Library Manager was proven to be compatible with it and had ironed out any bugs, and it seems like that is the case now, as iPLM has had its second release on top of iPhoto 7, so it should be reliable.
Re: Most of the Apple forums with iPhoto hangs have them being fixed by deleting some file or the other, and none of those fixes have worked.
Trouble with Apple Discussions and other “amateur” support groups is when people offer help without really understanding (or at least explaining, if they do) posible implications and side effects of their suggestions, which can lead to more problems than you started with if you follow them.
Re: I’m generally very conservative with major-release upgrades
I’m relatively conservative that way, patient enough to wait until developers of apps I rely on resolve compatibility issues (if any) to my satisfaction. For instance, I’ll keep running Tiger until DEVONthink Pro is stable on Leopard.
It’s hard to have sympathy for certain earlier adopters who won’t accept responsibility for problems caused by naively upgrading without having considered incompatibility consequences.
Re: I am glad to hear that the upgrade solved the problem for you, it makes it worthwhile for me to upgrade my iLife to the latest version.
Thanks. The upgrade from ‘07 to ‘08 was worth it to me even for iMovie ‘08 since it’s more convenient for editing digital camera movie clips than previous versions. Some of the brouhaha over it is sensible and understandable, though some people are easily angered and looking for reasons to complain about *anything* Apple changes.
Have fun!
