Hi All. This is my first post here. I have just bought a new Macbook Pro 15”. (2.4GHz CPU, 2GRAM, 160 G HDD etc etc.) Problem is that i cannot print anything. I have installed the latest drivers for the hp Deskjet 840C and I get prints with only the top half of the font as well as pages and pages of one or two lines per page. A print test goes 100% Ok though. I am a bit desperate and surprised as I never had a DAYS’ trouble with my old powerbook G4?!!

Any advise would be appreciated..

Did you download the drivers from the web? O

Or install them from the cd that came with the printer?

HI. I downloaded it from the hp website..

PS: I HAD XP installed on a disk partition, but removed it, fearing that this cold have caused the problem…
So the sequence was:

1. Install XP.
2. Started using Macbook.
3. Tried to print, failed.
4. Removed XP.
5. Still cold not print.
6. Downloaded driver (hp deskjet version 3.3)
7. Still cannot print.

Different printing problem over here,: just bought a new MackBook Pro 2.4 Ghz/ 2 GB memory.
At first printing was fine but now nothing comes out, no print, no pdf.

It’s a problem that doens’t concern the printers, i’ve tried different ones, re-installed the drivers etc. Didn’t work.

When I try saving as PDF, I see the icon appearing during this process, but disappearing when it’s finished. Nowhere to be found doing a search…

I don’t know if this issue startes after updating, or when.
But to me it’s a serious issue that’s damaging my work…

Couldn’t find any solution on the web either.

OOOPS!! I discovered the issue with the printing problem. Seems I shut down some system-fonts - like the Times. Apparently prints are rejected when there’s one of the system fonts used (in a space for instance), but not loaded.

It’s a really hard to detect issue beceause of it’s randomness. I had no problems printing form inDesign, or safari for instance, but i couldn’t print form firefox or Word. Just by turning of one font (okay: I got a warning turning that font off...)

Just a shame i have to have all those fonts i’ll never use in my font lists…

but gladly the problem is solved.

Steyn,

This comes late since I only just today encountered the exact same problem. I found help elsewhere on the web and I saw your post didn’t get answered. Maybe you already found the solution but this will potentially help others.

Here’s the deal. HP driver version 3.3 (used for Intel-based Macs) is not compatible with the Deskjet 840C printer. I went to HP site, downloaded version 2.7.1 and installed it. After that I went to System Preferences/Print & Fax and looked up the 840C. Under the info about the printer I found the 2.7.1 driver was already listed where before it showed 3.3. I clicked “apply changes” and my printer is back and working great. From what I read elsewhere, version 2.7.1, not being Intel-native, will run in emulation (Rosetta) but I noticed no slow down in the printing speed.

I hope you didn’t ditch your 840C. Mine has been running flawlessly for years.
