Not sure, whether I should have posted this under gaming matters or here. I think apple should create iplay, which would have many simple games, but they would all have extreme 3D graphics(not like doom3 though), what do you guys think? What games should it have?

Mario Kart

I remember the days in which I used to be glued to that game. Apple would probably make their own racing game similar to mario kart, but with better graphics.

Apple Kart?  wink

Maybe Apple should just licence the Sony PSP and release it with their logo on. smile

Apple of course have tried to release a games console before - the doomed Pippin console (plug into a TV) a few years back. I think it only ever made a brief debut / test release in Japan and then got cancelled.

I did not know about that. Do you have any links on this? Or details?

There’s probably quite a bit of information around (a Google search for “Pippin” “Apple” “Bandai” should turn it up), but here’s a few links:

* The Mac Geek
* Dark Watcher’s Console History
* Answers.com
* ComputerCloset.com
* Assembler.Roarvgm.com

Just don’t ask me how accurate some of those details are. smile

I was thinking, that if a good enough emulator was created, then many mac users, would not complain about lack of games.

There’s a ton of emulators already. Take a look at Emulation.net (go to the bottom of the page and there’s a Mac OS X style file browser). There’s no games there though, just the emulation software - it’s said that legally you need to already own the game to be able to use it on an emulator, but even then it’s iffy since many copyright / software agreement say you can’t store or copy it any way without permission.

The main problem with emaultion is that it’s slower than the real thing since every instruction of the code has to be translated to something the PowerPC and Mac understand. This means emulating a PlayStation 2 would require a very fast Mac. Emulating older, slower systems like the C64 is playable though.

I like Stella for Atari 2600 emulation. The fact that you can email the app and every 2600 game ever made in one stuffed archive under 2MBs is awesome.

I actually have emulation.net in my bookmarks, but I was looking for an all in one emulator, for multiple systems.

MacMESS does multiple systems.

Apple shouldn’t become a gave developper, it has an excellent shareware community.
