ClarisWorks was an awesome program. Along came the recent incarnations of AppleWorks, and now we have a buggy, annoying program that ought to have been written by MicroSoft. For instance: copying text from another file, or even from the same file, to paste somewhere else always shows up in a given font (Helvetica, I believe). Used to be (in ClarisWorks) that copied text would retain all attributes when pasted. Speadsheets are undependable, etc.
What happened, Apple, to AppleWorks?
Why not completely rewrite this once great Apple product, and do it right, once again.
Resurrect AppleWorks!!

chris, i dont think apple will be doing that since tehy are focusing on pages and the new iWork suit of apps..i think that AppleWorks is just going to go by the wayside in abotu a year because there have been rumors of an iSheet spreadsheet program...once that surfaces iWork will be complete and there will not be any need for it anymore....

Cripes, you’d think a reliable and regularly updated Mac word processing app wouldn’t be this hard to acquire. I’m sure Apple didn’t want to step on Microsoft’s toes, but now if they’re coming out with a spreadsheet program? Coolness. ThinkFree Office has been ok, but if Apple can get an office suite going like iLife - bring it on.

I remember when Appleworks was Clarisworks and I loved both programs. The original Clarisworks could do everything, write documents, do spreadsheets, paint, draw and even design websites. I know Apple is putting it out to pasture but I still miss it.

What I’m hoping for is just what has been mentioned - an excellent, user friendly, Apple-designed suite of office productivity programs, that will handle traditional computing tasks including word processing, page layout, spreadsheet, presentation, web page design, etc. (like AppleWorks, but up to the software quality standards that Apple has been famous for) - all the things most users need, but can’t get out of iLife.
Sort of like an office productivity version of iLife (which is what ClarisWorks used to be) - as another poster described it.
Does iWork do page layout? Web design?
Any details about the new spreadsheet program? Release date? Etc.?
Thanks.

I honestly don’t think AppleWorks will EVER see an update. Its really an EOL product. Apple will support it for a little while longer before it falls into the software abyse....i wouldn’t hold your breath for an update...but maybe an updated iWork suite?
