The contest currently being held has generated quite a response here at AM. Membership is up, forum post are up, traffic is way up and things are going well for the most part. But perhaps some of us are looking ahead to when this contest ends and thinking “what next?”

Well, to help answer that question I want to hear some feedback on what everyone would like to see in a contest, assuming that we were to do this again. So, here are three simple questions that need answers:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1.  What type of contest do you want to see next?
2.  What type of prize do you want offered?
3.  Should we have one big winner or several smaller winners?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Here are my answers:

1. A contest to see which post receives the most replies.

2. Mac Software, specifically several Mac games.

3. I think we should go with a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place system where the 1st place winner gets the main software title, the 2nd place winnner gets a less expensive software package and the 3rd place winner gets an iTunes gift card.

So, please tell me how we can make these contests better.

Oh man, not question is Mac not for gaming. Are the people of these forums really gamers? Specifically Mac gamers? I’d say some more hardware or something, low level Mac products etc.

How wasa this Mac mini/stack atttained anyways? The mention of OWC implies that at least the stack was a donation. True? Or is Apple Matters big enough to get scwag from Apple periodically? If Apple does that I’m going to have to start my own consumer website!

Whenever I hear the “designer’s platform” thing I get a little guilty. I do sound design I guess but I really don’t consider my computer a work station. Macs are slicker, cooler drool magnets (girls love em too).

I think all of these suggestions will be considered for future contests.

Personally, I consider myself a gamer but not a Mac Gamer. It’s PlayStation and XBox for me.

Ipod, good idea, but it sounds to much like what the free ipod guy is doing currently.  LOL

1. Have users write reviews and then let everyone vote on them.
2. Give away 2 or 3 ipods to the best reviews…

Here are my answers:

1. Caption contests are always fun.
Also photo contests eg ‘send us an apple themed picture with you doing comething ‘goofy’’

2. Something everyone can use like a nice big fat external Firewire HBB ( like the new Lacie/ Ethernet Network one),
OR an Ipod - anythign bigger than a shuffle should entice people
OR some kick ass free domain hosting / with name registration for a year.

3. Definately a tiered winning system, with winner 1 - 5 or a top prize and four equally lesser ( but still nice) prizes. This means there is essentially only first and second place, but the second place make four people happy insted of just one.

3. I think we should go with a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place system where the 1st place winner gets the main software title, the 2nd place winnner gets a less expensive software package and the 3rd place winner gets an iTunes gift card.

New Mac Smell,

I hadn’t thought of caption contest before, thanks. As for the external harddrive, how big should it be? 80 GB? 100 GB? What about a nice trackball or mouse as a prize? Wireless, lots of buttons, maybe something from Logitec or Macally?

The external hard drive should probably be a 200 gig drive. I don’t think enough people use, or like trackballs, for them to be a sucessful initiative for posting.
