Q IV is unleashed on Oct 18 for PC.
I am very optimistic to see it on the Mac.
Aspyr just released Doom III for Mac, so I think it’s only a matter of time…

Do you know if Q4 use the D3 engine or its own (hopefully faster) engine?

i’m looking forward to it too....to play on my PC! wink sorry to say, but when i can build a PC gaming rig for ~$1000,compared to the $3000 for a PM system which MIGHT make the game somewhat playable (see Doom3), it’s one of the situations where the Macs do fail miserably in the “Macs are not more expensive than their PC counterparts!"-argument.

lets hope the engine is different or at least tweaked to be more hardware friendly. afaik however, it is built on the D3 engine. :-(

You forgot to add: “If and when that game ever becomes available on the Mac.” smile

I think Ravensoft is using a tweaked version of the DIII engine.
Macs do get the short end of the stick w/gaming. Best case scenario, we’ll get a decent port. QIII was pretty solid. Hopefully they follow in step w/Q IV.

I hope it’s tweaked to run faster than DIII.  I’ve got a decent system and I could barely run it.  Well enough to get through it but far from ideal.

QIII is possibly one of the best games ever.

Have you played DIII on a high-end Mac (my Mac Mini, needless to say, is a lost cause)?  Any word on how it plays?

I am hoping that running faster is what they mean by “tweaked” as well. With any performance loss in a deathmatch game - you’re DOOMed.

AGREED! It truly is <quake voice>EXCELLENT!</quake voice>

My mini is as beefy of a system I have, so I have not had a taste of DIII.

I know James RYAN Stoup has played it. He posted his experience in the “What games have you been addicted to” thread. He mainly focused on game play, not system performance, so that may not have been an issue for him.

First, thanks for getting my name right.  Second, I didn’t have a problem with it because I was playing it on an Xbox and not on a PC.
