I did briefly entertain the idea of getting a PSP over the video iPod, but decided on the iPod for a few reasons:

1) Storage capacity.  The largest flash memory for the PSP is 2 GB.  The iPod holds 60 GB.  I’ve uploaded 15 movies, 10 Looney Tunes shorts, and 4000 songs, and I’ve only filled HALF of the iPod.  How many memory cards would I have to carry for that?

2) Portability.  The iPod is small enough for me to carry around in my pocket.  The small screen necessitated by the small form factor has never bothered me, even before I saw the video iPod.  I could have lived my video on my previous iPod, which has an even smaller screen.

3) I don’t play games.  Which means I’d be buying the PSP just for playing movies.  I do, however, listen to music.  So the iPod combines the two features I use most, even if video is a little more compromised on it than it is on the PSP.

4) iTunes.  The integration and ease-of-use can’t be beat.  In fairness, I’ve not used the PSP, so I don’t know how much easier or difficult it is use, but I imagine it could only be AS easy or more difficult.

Where did you get the Looney Tunes shorts from?

I didn’t know that such a thing existed, I thought you got it off the internet.

of all the debate around the viability of a video iPod, battery life was never mentioned. Yet when it launched, the collective groans of “2 hours?!?!” could be heard.

Considering Apple is footing part of their profit margin for the larger better quality screen, couldn’t they afford to smash a larger battery in there? Thin and lighter is good, but I would bet that those two features needing improvement are in noone’s top ten list.

I think 4 hours woulda done it, or at least a removable battery.

again, i guess this is so trivial now, but ipod the best chose that a man can make just because of iTunes.

If I’m not mistaken, I mentioned a battery comparison (based on stated specs, not my own experience) in a previous thread as one advantage the PSP has over the video iPod, even though I did finally pick the iPod.

I personally think that getting the PSP and planning on saving video and music on your memory stick pro duo is just a bad idea. It will take 1 GB to hold just one full length movie and then that will take up your entire stick. As for holding music, its possible to store a substantial amount of music on it if you get a 1 GB card. But the downside for mac users is that you will have to re-rip all of your CDs into windows media player and you cant use any of your iTunes downloads on your PSP. But as a mobile video game console it is awsome.
