From AppleInsider.com ...

Apple “sold out” of 1GB iPod shuffle till January
Apple Computer has sold out of its higher-capcity iPod digital music player and doesn’t plan to restock until next year, according to a message on its Web site.

The $129 iPod is “Sold out for holiday,” Apple said in a message on its online store. New stock of the original flash-based iPod is not expected until “mid-January.”

Not surprisingly, mid-January is also the time Apple traditionally unveils its latest consumer products at the Macworld Expo trade show in San Francisco. This year’s festivities are set to kick-off on January 10th.

At least one analyst has gone on record in saying that a new, smaller, version of the iPod shuffle is being prepped for a release around the same time.

“We are hearing of an even smaller form factor (smaller than a pack of gum) and the potential for the re-introduction of multiple colors,” said American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu in a research note from November.

Wu believes the new shuffle could come as early as January and said Apple’s preparation for the product refresh was likely behind its recent move to add Hynix as a third supplier of NAND flash memory chips.

Apple introduced the iPod shuffle in 512MB and 1GB models on January 11th. The 512MB model—which is still available from Apple and Amazon.com—was termed the “first iPod under $100.”

I’m hoping for multi-colored keychain ones.
Maybe even hyper-color? That would be sweet. (There is no basis for that speculation only my love for hyper-color)

That will most likely happen since I JUST bought a 1GB Shuffle for the wife.

If they make them too small I won’t be able to keep up with one smile I think its time to bump up that SNL skit again.

In other news, it looks like someone got so excited they forgot to switch users. heh heh

It will be a collector’s item. Like the Gold Mini

“Sold out” is hardly an indicator of an impending upgrade, we are sold out of ALL iPods, period! And have been for a few weeks now, they occasionally dribble in one or two at a time and are sold immediately.  Phone calls asking for iPods? EVERY DAY ALL DAY LONG! It’s driving the computer salesmen crazy! I’m told there’s not an iPod to be had here in a city with a pop. of around 1 million. Seems that no matter what Apple does they cannot keep up with demand.

I was at the Apple store in Germantown last weekend and they had plenty of everything except the 1gig shuffle, think I saw one left.

I have a shuffle (ok, I have practically every iPod) and I still don’t really get it. It is fine for a few songs, but the thing I love about the iPod is the interface.

I could see Apple upgrading them and making them even smaller. Other than that, what else could they do with the shuffle?

What would be nice would be one about the size of a keyfob with built in bluetooth and a set of bluetooth earplugs or headphones. Carry the iShuffle in your pocket and listen on the headphones without wires. Just an idea I had.
