Xbox 360 and Mac Router Problem

Hi all,

I recently purchased a D Link DSL 524t (wired) modem/router to connect both my Mac and Xbox onto the internet. However, I’m having a problem.

If I’m browsing the net using my iMac and then decide to download something on Xbox Live, it will cut my iMac internet connection off. The same applies when the tables are turned, in that if I’m downloading content on Xbox Live and then decide to surf the web on my iMac (in that order) then my Xbox Live connection is cut and the iMac takes over.

I’ve checked settings and can’t quite work out what’s gone wrong. The only thing worth mentioning is that both my Xbox and iMac are currently using my OLD modems MAC address, rather than the new router MAC address - I don’t know if this is the reason behind it all but I can’t see any way of changing the MAC address on my iMac.

I’ve checked that both Xbox and iMac have different IP addresses (one is 192.168.1.2 and the other is 192.168.1.3, where my router address is 192.168.1.1).

Someone also mentioned to me to turn DHCP Server on - this is already on and hasn’t changed anything.

I think that’s all the information I can provide. I’ve updated to the latest firmware for the router and I’m still having the same problem.

If anyone could advise I’d appreciate it.

Thanks

What kind of router are you using with your Xbox 360? I am using my old Xbox router and that works fine when I am on Xbox Live and on the internet on my Mac.

A D Link DSL 524t (wired) modem/router (my cousin has one and it works fine - I even set it up for him but I’m having troubles setting mine up).

Aaron, assuming that the routers default is dhcp and wide open, did you reset it to to defaults and see if that fixes the problem. Also check to see which Ethernet ports you are using, make sure one is not plugged into a shared port.

It seems to me if you reset to defaults and are sure that there is not a conflict on the switch, you may have a bad switch.

What I meant was what router are you using to allow your Xbox to connect wirelessly?

Trys To chenge The Base IP address. From 192.x.x Become 172.x.x MAybe.

When i first bought my Mac and i connect it to my house network. All other windows pc is not connected to the internet when i connect, and if they turn on their pc before me. I can’t conncet to the internet. Maybe that’s just a lucky trick, but worth to try i guess
