Time machine looks great and I cant wait until Leopard comes out so I can get it. I also think that Apple is going to have a way to make time machine work without having to take up extra space on your hard drive. They cant expect people to got out and buy and external hard drive or a .mac account just to use this feature on their computer. Especially not after just having bought an expensive Mac computer or buying just the operating system.

Well, most people have enough space on their hard drive, so that they shouldm’t need an external drive. And some people didn’t buy expensive Macs anyway.

First off, the cheapest Mac you can get is a Mac Mini with a 60 GB hard drive. First off that is still not cheap when you still need to buy a monitor and keyboard/mouse. Second a 60 GB hard drive is tiny and not enough space for anyone. If you have to cut that in half you only have 30 GB that you can use. My iPod is that big. I have a 120 GB hard drive on my computer and I have used up over half of that already, and the free space is constantly decreasing due to the movies that I rip and save on my computer. In order for me to use Time Machine I would need an extra hard drive or a .Mac account neither of which I want to buy being as how expensive they can be.

Speak for yourself, I have not even used 30gb on my hard drive, and I know that there are many Mac users who, don’t have large programs on their hard drive like me. As for mouse, monitor, and keyboard, I am pretty sure that most people have these already. I actually threw out the ones that came with my Pc. Besides, if movies take up most of your space, you should be fine, as long as you aren’t editing the movies.

Well a big appeal of Macs is the ability to edit videos and what not very well. So professionals need to maximize there hard drive space so most of them cant split their hard drives in order to use time machine. This is why I think Apple is working on a way to use time machine without having to split your hard drive or buy another or a .mac account. And my point with the keyboard and mouse statement in my previous post was to show that Macs are not cheap at all, and when someone is buying a computer for the first time they might not already have a monitor or keyboard and mouse. So that is another expense, especially when you can get a Dell (even though it is pretty crappy) for like $300 that will come with a 17” monitor and keyboard and mouse.

Most people switching from Pcs, because 99% of the population of USA has a computer already. And Macs are inexpensively expensive… In comparison, they are reasonable, but they are expensive. As for the Time Machine, I am pretty sure you can just make it only cache files under 100mb.

It probably is not a hard concept to grasp but you described it very unclearly. So I was hoping you would rephrase the post so that most people can understand it.
