New Ad!

Anybody see the new Mac ad during The Daily Show on 5 Feb?  It completely lampoons Vista - doesn’t say much about Mac but clearly implies Vista has ridiculously invasive and disruptive security.  There’s this third character standing just behind PC and clearly in the style of a secret service agent.  He says something after PC says anything AND after Mac says anything, ending each by saying “Cancel or allow?”.  Great commercial.  Why is this nowhere else posted?  Did Apple sneak one by without even the rumor sites reviewing it?

I talk to my cats now as the security guy.

Possible snow now. Open the door? Cancel or Allow.

I really like the anti-vista Apple ads but I think that Apple needs to come up with some more pro-Mac ads less of the anti-vista ads.  It think it is bad for Apple’s “image” to be bringing its competitors products down.

Maybe this was a response to Gates saying that Macs are hacked every day. The ad is a satirical exaggeration, what Gates said was a lie so gross, that it didn’t deserve rational refutation.

I am not saying that Apple should not have made the anti-vista ads (because microsoft definitely had it coming) or that they should stop playing them on tv but I think that they should get back to pro-Mac ads.

I agree. I’ve been wondering what is the strategy behind this campaign. Maybe the trend is not as much What is the performance of this machine, but “Does this computer makes me look cool?”
I have one switcher among my friends, who switched for the design solely. Now she is trying to figure out whether she’ll use Win or Mac. Strange. I would choose on basis of the OS, but it seems like that is shifting.
Now I come to think to it, all of the switchers I know are young women, who like to dress well etc.
Maybe the ads are right. Don’t use arguments like faster, better or whatever, but get to the emotion level.
Just like car ads do. They show the car driving trough a landscape, on that mystic road where no other cars drive.
