Thanks, I did not expect apple to be the number 2 wireless networking company. Wonder where netgear stands.michaelstone - Oct 16, 2005 08:54pmBigMac - Oct 16, 2005 08:41pmmichaelstone - Oct 16, 2005 05:08pmBigMac - Oct 12, 2005 07:14pmNathan - Oct 12, 2005 06:30pmAirtunes is one of the most underrated Apple tech to come out.
It solves so many problems of having home digital audio, that its a wonder people don’t talk about it more. But is it because not too many Airport Expresses have been sold or is that completely wrong?
Apple is the number 2 wireless networking company, just behind Linksys, actaully, so I’m gonna say quite a few have been sold.
I didn’t know that. Do you have a link?
“How fast did Apple embrace Wi-Fi? According to research by tech tracker In-Stat/MDR, Apple grabbed 20.2% of the global market for network interface cards (NIC) and wireless access points offering the 802.11g flavor of Wi-Fi. That put the Mac folks behind only Cisco (CSCO ) subsidiary and industry leader Linksys in sales of gear running 802.11g, which is quickly become the de facto standard for consumer and small-business Wi-Fi use.
Still, if Apple is No. 2 in sales, it leads in revenues. In 2003, it pulled in $148.3 million in 802.11g revenues, putting Jobs & Co. ahead of Linksys by some $32 million. True, Apple had a much smaller market share in older and slower 802.11b devices, but it didn’t even bother to advertise its products available in that market, instead choosing to emphasis the zippy newer line. ”

I do the same with my PowerBook. But i use Airtunes with my iMac. Since the iMac is upstairs and the stereo is downstairs I would have to have a long cord run between the two. |

It’s inconvenient enough to have my iPod across the room and inaccessible when I’m listening to music, I’d hate to have it in a completely different room all together. My roomate has one, I used it once when I was setting it up, now I just use its RJ45 for my Xbox. |

I was just using it again last night and it still falls into the cool and useful category. AirVideo would be cool. |

i’m guessing the next iteration will be of the “AirMedia” variety, or they’ll stick w/ airTunes, as they have kep iTunes even w/ the new video features. |

I guess that sort of thing does kill media centres doesn’t it? It’s the same thing but You can stream any program you want (maybe only after hacking like Airtunes) |
