I got a new idea.

Okay, so your Mac is connected to the Air Video and it has a queue of videos it is playing. The actual Air Video has a IR receiver and a remote and you can control the videos from your TV without going into the room with the computer! You can even save queues and bookmarks and whittle away at TV shows and movies over days and weeks.

Problem: You’d have to probably play it through Quicktime, which at this point is not even close to a media player. It doesn’t know about subs or dual audio channels, or OGM or WMV or anything remotely cutting edge. They’d have to make a better player, or at least let us use VLC.

Maybe they could just have video output to the TV using any media through any program? Or we’d have to wait for the hacked version like with airtunes.

Well, iTunes could morph into a more robust media player in future revisions. Otherwise, there is iDVD (probably not), iMovie as far as the integrated iLife apps.

The last two aren’t media players though (basically). iTunes and Quicktime are the only ones, Quicktime isn’t really built for it and never was.

Apple will have to be less proprietary about what it lets you view if they want a truly usable media centre.

I have an express, and use airtunes all time. Even though my stereo is only 2 ft from my computer. I find it much easier to just switch it to airtunes in iTunes, than plugging and unplugging a cable all the time on my iBook.

Since using it, I’ve had no problems with it, and find using my stereo much better that the computer speakers.

I hope no one complains for me posting to a 4 year old thread so .... “BUMP”

AirTunes is awesome I just got one yesterday. I know that a lot of you complained you couldn’t control your iTunes if the music was in another room. Now 4 years later I have the awesome addition of a iPhone with the Remote app. I can control my music from anywhere.

On top of that I no longer have to worry about any cables

I went from a 3 foot optical audio cable to my 5.1 setup and a ethernet cord on my mac book pro. No I just stream my audio to the Airport Express and connect my speakers with the short optical cable and connect to the Express over wifi.

And yes I live in a small dorm room. And I wouldn’t go back to “PLugging in a cable” to listen to audio even if my life depended on it. What a hassle to have a laptop with tons of cables plugged in. If i wanted that I would have gotten a desktop. My only qualm is that I can’t stream audio from safari/youtube etc over Airtunes. Any new solutions?

Thanks Guys
