“The snapping cap”
This simple detail is one of my favorite parts of the iPod Shuffle’s design. Both of the included caps snap onto the USB end of the unit via a pair of spring loaded ball bearings hidden inside of the cap. The USB plug contains a small perforated hole on each of the thin sides into which the ball bearings snap with a gratifying “click”. Though while the cap clicks on tightly it still poses the potential problem for the lanyard wearers of pulling off and getting lost. I could imagine a modified cap that locks onto the USB plug, with a simple release button for removal.

Maybe next generation.
