October 5, 1999: iMac gets Updated

by Chris Seibold Oct 05, 2007

It wasn't the first revision of the CRT based iMac but it was one of the most welcome upgrades to the G3 iMac line.

The processor speeds were bumped across the board (the low end went from 333 MHz to 350 MHz) the CD tray was gone replaced by a slot loading mechanism, memory was boosted to 64 MB and video cards were upgraded.

Things were even more exciting with the new DV and DV SE models. Those opting for the higher end iMacs got a machine with FireWire allowing them to use Apple's new must have program iMovie.

The iMacs were generally updated in the summer but the trend was broken in 1999 when Apple upgraded the iMacs on October 5.
