  • As to Point #1: I wouldn't worry about it much. With more and more non-mainstream and open source utilities & applications being ported over to the Mac platform, the migration from Alt-C to Logo-C is already prevalent. Why, with common use of NeoOffice and Firefox it's gotten to the point that I feel using Alt-C is just an alien concept. And I'm only using the G4 Powerbook, not the Intel Macs that can run Windows.

  • Um. The comment is longer than the article.
  • Hahah. I'm going to do my Lenin speech again. Yes, I do think that rather than the freedom fighter that he claims to be, The Jobs will -- if he lives long enough to see his revolution become mainstream -- prove to be what Lenin was to the Russian proletariat. It won't be the first time in history that a man lauded as a saviour turns out to be actually a rotten despot at the core. He's fighting for tha cause of the Everyman now because he wants that power base that someone else in Redmond has. Once he's got that, he'll lock you into a gulag worse than the one we had under The Gates. As the recent iPhone-bricking shows, the crafty leopard is already showing its spots now. If people think it's bad enough now, wait until Apple gets into an actual dominant position.

  • Makes me wonder if the next article is going to be, "Why I give up arguing with Mac people." Poor chap probably thought he was going to get tonnes of sympathetic noises. I'm glad it's 29 to 1, or whatever it is. This man speaks as if we don't have enough real issues out in the real world that are keeping the human race apart.

  • I'm still using an 800MHz Quicksilver on a daily basis. Love it to bits. Had a G5 Power Mac once but when I had to sell one of the machines, I actually decided I liked the Quicksilver design more. Like the Beetle, it has character. It's now modded to the rafters in an attempt to keep it from "sagging". SATA card, dual monitor support thanks to an ADC-to-VGA adapter I got before they disappeared, 802.11g wireless PCI card, maxed to 1.5GB RAM, and 3 x 160GB hard disks in a RAID 0 configuration (with external backup). The only things that could be done that I haven't done is swap the CDRW drive for a Superdrive, and the 32MB Radeon 7000 card for a new one (don't need either of these). Oh, and also swap the processor to a 1.8GHz dual G4 (this I could do with but it's a bit expensive). Try doing something like that with an iMac in 5 years' time. Or a Mac Pro, even.

  • "Steve Jobs: the Lenin of the Computing World." 10 years from now, someone will write this book.

  • Man. If you're this whiny in real life, I'm sure your friends are even more glad you've decided to stop arguing with them about the superiority of your chosen path. In fact, I bet all this while they'd be going around wondering what they did so wrong to deserve all those holier-than-thou tirades at the watercooler. Look, dude. Who gives a sh*t, all right? They're just computers. I love my Audi to bits but unlike Mac people I don't try to sleep with my favoured machine. I don't make it a habit to tell people who just bought a Ford why they suck, either.

  • "What Apple should have done is what they did with the original iPod: focus on creating the one great thing. " You have to realise the iPod is now a product that's almost towards the end of the mature trajectory. At this point it makes economic sense to splinter the product line to offer as many choices as possible to retain customers and attract new ones. The single iPod line made sense when Apple was just exploring a new market. Now that it has more or less owned that market, it needs to now make sure that it can wrest the most out of it. So people like the poster above who needed different iPods for different situations would have to buy 3 different iPods instead of just the one. Evil? Or plain good business sense? You decide.

  • I, too, wish Aston Martin would come out with a coupe with a removable top, hybrid fuel technology and 4-litre V12 engine, and then sell it at the price of a Toyota. The fact that they don't makes me want to curse Aston Martin engineers for 7 generations. Jeez.
