People, you're missing the point: neither the Macintosh nor Treos are locked up, closed systems and yet, somehow, there are NO viruses for the Mac and no Treo owner (to my knowledge) has ever "taken down the Pacific cell system" (as Steve Jobs claimed an open cell phone could do). This is pure propaganda and we shouldn't be buying into this. All Apple's arguments against providing an SDK for opening the phone (security, reliability) etc are fallacious (let's hope they're just buying time to do it right and not avoiding this entirely). Yes, my Treo 650 does crash about every 2 weeks- so what? All Apple has to do is let 3rd party developers pay them to certify their apps. An iPhone Certified application should be just fine. I do hope they create an SDK to open up the iPhone (there are a couple apps on my Treo I really need and I know the authors would develop for the iPhone if they could). Let's hope people wake up to the wool being pulled over their eyes and pressure Apple to make 21st Century computing a true mobile reality...
