August 7, 1997: Bill Gates Appears at MacWorld

by Chris Seibold Aug 07, 2008

Gather a herd of Mac lovers in a centralized location, get Steve Jobs to do the keynote and you have a recipe for a lot of "boos," at least if the presentation also includes an appearance by Bill Gates on a giant video screen.

Bill Gates showed up on the giant TV screen at MacWorld Boston to voice his support of the Mac and plug MS Office '98. The appearance also coincided with the announcement of a monetarily insignificant but symbolically huge investment of $150 million by Microsoft in Apple stock.

Bill Gates appeared at MacWorld Boston to the dismay of MacWorld attendees this week in 1997.
