December 21, 1998: iMac Number 1 for November

by Chris Seibold Dec 21, 2010

The original gumdrop shaped bondi blue iMac is the machine that put Apple back in the minds of consumers. It is also the computer that brought Apple its highest market share in ten years (3.19% worldwide).

That share is measured by operating system. Just looking at who makes the best selling computer changes the picture a bit if one recalls that PC sales are divvied up among Dell, HP, Sony and a slew of others.

Whichever metric you choose to define success, Apple got great news when the iMac was revealed to be one of the top sellers for four straight months and the top seller for the month of November by PC Data on December 21, 1998.
