Review: Marware’s C.E.O.  Billfold Wallet

by James Bain Oct 13, 2006

As I’ve expressed before, I really would like a convenient way to carry my iPod with me in a wallet-type case and Marware’s C.E.O.™ Billfold Wallet seems to be something along the lines that I’ve been looking for.

The C.E.O. Billfold Wallet is a full-grain leather wallet, tastefully designed, with adequate room for credit cards, money (of course), a secure ID slot, and, most importantly, space for an iPod Nano.

I really think I’m going to have to give up on my idea of carrying my Video iPod with me in this way—the device is simply too large I think for that sort of carriage—but for everyone in the world who has a Nano, either first or second generation, and a yearning to carry it in a billfold, this is most definitely something to look at.

Marware’s product description warns you upfront that the C.E.O Billfold is intended only for use in your jacket pockets, not your pant pockets. There’s not enough stiff protection here to guarantee your iPod’s survival, tucked in the back pocket of your jeans say. You might have better luck in a looser pair of trousers, but I can certainly understand Marware’s caveat. There’s just no way with leather alone to ensure you won’t somehow or another apply enough strain to your Nano to snap it in two.

Still, this is a smart looking wallet, and I can definitely see myself tucking it into my suit or jacket pocket and taking it along to work.

I like the perforated finish and it’s wide enough to carry British Pound Notes, in case anyone has to any more. That was always my measure of a billfold’s elegance, thinking it implied a certain Savile Row charm. Nevertheless, euro, dollar, and yen notes, dinars and pesos, all should fit well and comfortably, as many as you’d reasonably be carrying around with you at least.

I give the C.E.O. Billfold Wallet an 80%. I am still hoping for something I could put in my back pocket, but this is a good looking billfold and one I know I’d be using right now, if only I had a Nano.
