  • A big issue with leading edge technology is having the infrastructure for it. You used the example of digital cameras. Attempts for smart phones needed the bandwidth. We have the Newton now, but it's called the iPhone. I'm not much of a TV watcher, and have absolutely no interest in AppleTV, but have heard that a majority of those who download movies already have boxes and are Netflix customers. (I'd rather have all of my TV components connected by USB with smart technology that turns on my stereo and remembers that local channel 4 is 654 on my Comcast box, or when my wife hits 7, to automatically go to 7-1 on her TV).

  • It's not even that - in the U.S., it's AT&T;, where we get to have an iPhone, or everybody else, where we get a phone, and wait for the future.

Why the iPhone Can't Be Beat
  • We have family contracts with Verizon, so we're in one of the demographics that Apple doesn't want. Some people live where there aren't options. But I'm also not in the market for 2nd rate smart phones either. I don't know whether AT&T;pays Apple enough to counter the loss in iPhone sales, or whether this strategy is based upon not being able to build iPhones quickly enough.

  • Things that I like better in Windows: 1. When I click on a different Window, I don't have to wait for the focus to follow me. I *hate* that feature of OSX. 2. I can right click and then drag - and it will ask me whether I want to copy or move. 3. I like having the top menu for each application. Sure it uses up more space, but multi-tasking is every application the same.

5 Reasons Why OS X Still Beats Windows
  • You said " OS X should be the final release of an Apple WYSIWYG interface". That implies that you forsee a non WYSIWYG interface, or at least non Apple-WYSIWYG interface. What you see isn't what you get? Or are you saying Apple's OS interface is finished, now that Windows is catching up? We won't need Mac style computers in the future?

Why Apple Shouldn't Ignore the Enterprise
  • Even without financial hardship, when we have a family, an allowance means guilt-free spending. When I have an allowance, and I decide to stop for a coffee every morning on the way to work - it might cost me a golf date. But it doesn't cost my family anything, as it has already been "spent" on my own choice of toys.

  • What's especially neat, is that he's a model who enjoys life so much. Giving *should* be a joy. Creating *should* be a joy. Heck, dancing with stars *should* be a joy.

  • The real easy first step for managing one's personal expenses is to give one's self an allowance. But very few people will tie themselves down with a fixed allowance - too much bother. If that's too much bother, certainly software isn't the solution.

  • As far as focus goes, I get real fustrated when I don't get my focus fast enough. I hit my new window, and then start hitting keys, only to discover I am still on my old app. I'm not patient enough. This seems especially bad when I switch monitors. At least let me have a setting to adjust this delay. (Maybe it's because I have to use Windows at work, and it doesn't have that delay - probably because it was designed as multi-tasking and has a menu bar for each application, while Apple kept its historical single menu bar, even as it got better multi-tasking than Windows).

  • Using the iTunes categorization of applications is a great idea. But iTunes can use improvements, it's Search is dumber than OS-X's search. Allow standard pattern matching searches.

  • Pretend your credit purchases are debit purchases - put them in the checkbook as you make them. Give yourself an allowance, and use a separate checkbook for this allowance. All toys come from this allowance.
