  • Well, video-capable iPod isn't very surprising for almost everyone, but it's still a heavy punch (especially to the competitors) in every measure. As I said in on my own comment space, iPod with video is a necessary feature after they introduced Nano, which is essentially a smaller-size iPod photo. One key factor for Apple to get sale figures that high in every sector of MP3 market is by clear product differentiation, which creates maximum value in each product, which leads to minimum cannibalization among its own products and maximum sales for each one. The power to define product classification is a great measure of marketing power and influence. Just look at Creative, everytime they come up with something new, it's an add-on to its already crowded product line-up. They just can't let go of the incured cost on previous lame product when they intorduce another; they are simply directionless and clueless regardless of how Mr Sim Wong Hoo the CEO trumpeted the self-declared war against apple.

  • This article is like a long wish list to Apple for what the writer hopes will be in the market. Like many other similar articles about what Apple's going to do next, I find this article lack supporting evidence, therefore rendering it pure speculation. Be it how hard we all try to read Apple's mind, apparently the only credible tales are kept inside Apple Campus in 1 Infinite Loop. However, there are very obvious signs from time to time of what Apple is up to for the next product launch. E.g. the public news of Apple buying up 40% of Samsung's flash chips output foretold the coming of Nano, and there was also a news on iPod's new processor that accurately predicted the coming of iPod Photo. Besides these type of information, and those obtained by prying open Apple's guard and then get sued by Apple, the rest are, well, pure speculations.

Nano Signals The Times Are A Changing. Again.
  • ROKR is dull. I still keep on hoping that there is a discern phone that doubles its role as an music player, so that I don't have to miss incoming calls when I am listening to music. So far, nothing in the market seems particular intersting and attractive yet. I think the poroblem with ROKR is that there are two brains involved in the design porocess, one from Apple and the other from Motorola. We all know that ROKR is based on E398, which was originally created as a music cellphone already (it comes with a java music player). E398 highlights the fact that Motorola has its own path on music cellphone, which does not really coincide with Apple's. On the other hand, Apple doesn't seem to be too hyped about music cellphone at this moment. Putting it all together, the end product is what we see in ROKR: i.e. E398 + iTune. Btw, read my site on nano http://macnify.blogspot.com/2005/09/ipod-nano-tested-hands-on.html
