August 21, 1998: Quark Attempts Takeover of Adobe
In the professional world Macs are used frequently for page layout and image manipulation. The two biggest dogs in the desktop publishing pack are Quark and Adobe. Quark's claim to fame is Quark Express. Adobe is known first for Photoshop and later for a slew much loved programs including Illustrator and InDesign.
Staunch competitors to say the least the two companies didn't see eye to eye on a lot of things. As fate would have it some of Adobes failings were strengths of Quarks and some of Quarks failings would be addressed by the strengths of Quark.
To Quark the marriage seemed like a natural ft, to Adobe, not so much. Adobe soundly rejected Quarks offer made this week in 1998.

OMG!!! Proofread!!! This article is full of mispellings and mistakes. Jeez!
Tell me about it. I pointed this out on another article. The writing on Apple Matters really does sound pedestrian at the best of times, and downright awful at others.
Why should the mac fratenrity bother to read a website whose authors clearly can’t be bothered to pay even the slightest attention to the quality of their output?
Ha Ha. This is the best part ..."and some of Quarks failings would be addressed by the strengths of Quark.” I enjoy the Apple history arcticles but, sometimes these guys are a year or so off or they just screw up the facts. Come on guys.... If you really want to do justice to the great company from which you base your web site, make sure you read over your articles before posting them.
