Maybe Dells are Just Really Cheap

by Chris Seibold Feb 21, 2006

After the whole MacBook Pro is a thousand dollars more than a Dell conversation all that was really decided was that, provided you jumped through enough hoops, you could get a Dell for a lot less than a Mac. No surprise there. The exercise didn’t tell us anything about Apple’s pricing as compared to the rest of the industry. That comparison seems a bit more favorable with Samsungs Core Duo offering. If you read engadget’s post on the Samsung you’ll not that the X11 is roughly equivalent to the 1.83 GHz MacBook Pro. Well, you get a few more Hertz with the Mac and a slightly larger screen (not sure if that is good or bad) but by and large the laptops are comparable. The Samsung will set you back $1750, pretty close to the MacBook’s price of $1999.
