iBook (16 VRAM) (Mid 2002)

Introduced: May 2002
Terminated: November 2002

Description

Running a G3 processor at 600 or 700Mhz, the iBook (16 VRAM) offered an increase in processor speed, but few other upgrades.  It had a 20, 30 or 40Gb hard drive.  It was available with a tray loading 24x CD-ROM or a 8x 8x 8x 24x DVD/CD-RW Combo drive.  It had 128Mb of RAM expandable to 640Mb, a VGA out, stereo speakers and TFT XGA screen.  Beyond the speed, the other major upgrade in this model was the increase in the VRAM to 16Mb by use of the Radeon Mobility Card.  The low-end and midrange models had a 12.1” screen while the high-end model had a 14.1” screen.

History

Virtually identical to the redesigned white polycarbonate iBook released in May, the iBook (16 VRAM) offered increased processor speeds and improved VRAM.  The prices ranged from $1199 for the low-end model to $1499 for the midrange model to $1799 for the 14.1” high-end model.
