March 28, 2003: Apple Is Gored!

by Chris Seibold Mar 28, 2011

While John Sculley was President of Apple Computer he found the time to work tirelessly on Bill Clinton's bid for the Presidency. Sculley's contribution was great enough that Bill Clinton was rumored to seriously consider Sculley as a Vice Presidential candidate. In the end, John Sculley settled for sitting next to Mrs. Clinton at the President's first State of the Union address.

Clinton's eventual choice for Vice President was Al Gore. An early proponent of the internet (insert your own "invented" joke here), Vice President Gore went on to lose the 2000 Presidential election to George Bush by a very narrow margin.

If an Apple board member had been rumored to be a Vice Presidential candidate in the past why not an actual Vice President as an Apple board member? The idea seemed sound and Gore was tapped to join Apple's Board of Directors this week in 2003.

  • There was no Presidential election in 1998. Gore lost the 2000 election.

I couldn’t tell you who the PM (or president?) of Australia is NOW without Google, much less in 1998 or 2000.  So kudos to Chris for getting close.

  • What’s up with all of the errors guys?  Is this site ran by 12 year olds?  I love getting the great stories about Apple history but you really need to put more work in to checking your facts.

Do you people not have sub-editors? Surely you mean: “Vice President Gore went on to win the 2000 Presidential election but George Bush and the other neo-cons have influential friends, so leant on the right people to ensure that Dubya won.”

    grin
